East Providence sits across the Seekonk River from Providence, stretching along the eastern shore of the upper bay from the river mouth down to Bullocks Point. I-195 crosses the river into the city from Providence and heads east toward Seekonk and Fall River. US 44, Taunton Avenue, runs northeast toward Seekonk and Rehoboth, US 1A, Pawtucket Avenue, runs north toward Pawtucket, and RI 114, the Wampanoag Trail, heads south toward Barrington and Warren.
Veterans Memorial Parkway follows the river and the bay along the west side, a scenic drive with views of the Providence skyline. Broadway, Warren Avenue and Willett Avenue serve the neighborhoods, and the intersection known as Six Corners is the city's busiest crossroads. Pawtucket Avenue and Warren Avenue carry much of the north-south traffic through older commercial strips. I-195 and the bridge into Providence back up every weekday, and a breakdown on the bridge or the approach ramps stops traffic for everyone heading west.
The East Bay Bike Path runs the length of the city along an old rail line between India Point Park in Providence and Bristol, and plenty of people ride it to work, so drivers watch for riders at every crossing. RIPTA buses serve the city, and T.F. Green International Airport is a short drive away by I-195 and I-95. The waterfront district near the bridge is being redeveloped with new homes and businesses.
For a mobile mechanic, East Providence is mostly driveways and garages. The older neighborhoods near the river have smaller lots and shared driveways, while Rumford and parts of Riverside have larger homes with garages. Riverside's streets near the water are narrow and close to the shore, and the industrial areas along the river and the shopping lots near Six Corners are big and easy to work in.
