Meridian grew up along I-84 between Boise and Nampa, and the freeway still defines how people move through it. Interchanges at Eagle Road, Meridian Road and Ten Mile Road feed the city from the south side. Chinden Boulevard runs along the north edge as US 20/26, and Meridian Road becomes SH 69 south of the freeway on its way to Kuna. Between them, the mile-road grid of Fairview, Ustick, McMillan, Overland, Victory and Amity organizes nearly every neighborhood.
Eagle Road is the heart of the city's commercial traffic and one of the busiest corridors in the state, lined with medical offices, shopping centers and long signal cycles. Stop-and-go there and on the I-84 merge toward Boise wears brakes and heats transmissions, and a stall in the turn lanes is a real hassle. The good news is that the grid puts every subdivision close to a main road, so a mechanic rarely needs long to get to your driveway.
Boise Airport is a short drive east on I-84, and Valley Regional Transit runs buses along the main corridors. Most people drive, though, and many commute to Boise, Nampa or the office parks along the freeway, so a repair done at home or in a workplace lot saves a real chunk of the day. Winter mornings add fog to the commute, and a car that won't start in a dark driveway before work is one of the most common reasons Meridian drivers look for on-site help.
