Henderson spreads across the southeastern corner of the Las Vegas Valley, climbing toward the McCullough Range and the River Mountains. I-11, signed together with US 95, runs through the city from the northwest toward Boulder City and Hoover Dam. I-215, the southern part of the Beltway, cuts across the middle of Henderson, connecting it with the airport and I-15. St. Rose Parkway runs along the south side toward I-15, and Lake Mead Parkway heads east toward Lake Las Vegas and Lake Mead. Boulder Highway is the old main road through the original townsite, and Eastern Avenue, Green Valley Parkway and Stephanie Street carry most of the north-south traffic.
The I-11 and I-215 interchange, St. Rose Parkway at rush hour and Eastern Avenue near the Beltway are the usual slow spots. Henderson is largely made up of master-planned communities, with wide parkways, landscaped medians and curving residential streets inside each one. Many neighborhoods are gated, so a mechanic needs a gate code or intercom entry to reach the driveway. Inside the gates, streets are quiet and wide, which leaves plenty of room to work.
Harry Reid International Airport is a short drive northwest along the Beltway, and Henderson Executive Airport serves private aircraft on the southwest side. Buses run along the main arterials, but nearly everyone drives. The parkways are wide and well marked, so arrival times are usually predictable once inside the city.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area lies just east of the city, and weekend traffic toward the lake and Lake Las Vegas fills Lake Mead Parkway in summer. Boats and trailers heading out at dawn make early Saturday mornings busier than you might expect.
