Naperville stretches from the I-88 tollway corridor on the north to Will County farmland on the south, with the DuPage River running through the middle. I-88 carries commuters east toward Chicago and west toward Aurora, and I-355 runs along the east side toward Bolingbrook and Downers Grove. Inside the city, IL 59 and Washington Street are the main north-south routes, and Ogden Avenue, 75th Street and 95th Street carry most of the east-west traffic, with Naper Boulevard linking the east-side neighborhoods. Because the river cuts through the center of town, the bridge crossings downtown carry more traffic than their size suggests.
The layout makes the city easy to cross. Most neighborhoods are subdivisions with curving streets that feed onto a handful of arterials, and nearly every home has a driveway or attached garage. The trouble spots are the corridors themselves. IL 59 and 75th Street back up with shopping traffic, Washington Street crawls near downtown on weekends, and the I-88 and I-355 interchanges are where commute breakdowns pile up. A car that dies in a school pickup line or a packed store lot is another familiar reason to need help fast.
Two Metra stations on the BNSF line, downtown Naperville and Route 59, carry a big share of the city's commuters into Chicago, and both have large parking lots. Pace buses connect neighborhoods to the stations. Most families still rely on two or more vehicles, so a repair done at home while you're at work or running the kids around is a real time saver.
