Fort Wayne grew up where the St. Joseph and St. Marys rivers meet to form the Maumee, and the city's roads still bend around those three rivers. I-69 runs along the west and north sides of the city, connecting Fort Wayne with Indianapolis to the south and Michigan to the north. I-469 loops around the south and east sides, carrying through traffic around the city toward Ohio. US 30 heads east toward Ohio and west toward Warsaw, and US 24 runs northeast toward Toledo and southwest toward Huntington.
Inside the city, Coliseum Boulevard forms a partial loop around the north and east sides, and Lima Road, Jefferson Boulevard, Washington Boulevard and Illinois Road carry much of the traffic. Downtown has one-way pairs and riverfront streets, while the outer neighborhoods have suburban layouts with driveways and attached garages. Breakdowns are most common on Coliseum Boulevard, Dupont Road and the I-69 interchanges at rush hour, and the river bridges can bottleneck when traffic is heavy. Many outer neighborhoods sit on curving subdivision streets with cul-de-sacs, which are quiet places to work but easy to miss, so a nearby landmark helps.
Fort Wayne International Airport sits on the south side and shares its field with an Air National Guard fighter wing. Citilink runs buses across the city, but most of Allen County depends on the car in the driveway, and many commuters come in from small towns and farm country where the nearest shop is a long way off. Having the repair come to you saves that drive entirely, which matters even more on a frozen January morning.
