Ogden sits on a bench at the foot of the Wasatch where the Ogden and Weber rivers leave the mountains, and its roads run in a grid between the freeways and the foothills. I-15 runs north and south along the west side, linking Ogden with Davis County and Salt Lake to the south and Brigham City to the north. I-84 joins it near Riverdale after coming down Weber Canyon from Morgan. Washington Boulevard, part of US 89, is the main north-south street through downtown, Harrison Boulevard runs along the east bench, and SR 39 climbs Ogden Canyon toward Pineview Reservoir and the Ogden Valley.
For a mobile mechanic, Ogden is compact and easy to cross. Downtown and the neighborhoods around it sit on a tidy grid, and the east bench neighborhoods have driveways and garages. The busiest spots are the I-15 and I-84 interchange near Riverdale, Riverdale Road's retail strip and Harrison Boulevard near Weber State during the school year. Winter storms and canyon traffic on ski weekends slow things down, and the steep east bench streets can be slick. Downtown blocks are long, so mention the nearest cross street along with the address.
Ogden-Hinckley Airport sits on the southwest side, and its lot is easy to reach. FrontRunner commuter trains stop at the Ogden intermodal hub, and a bus rapid transit line connects downtown with Weber State and the hospital on the bench. Hill Air Force Base lies south of the city, and its workforce makes the I-15 commute through Roy and Riverdale busy every weekday. Many Hill workers live in Ogden and commute south, so early-morning no-starts before a shift are a common request.
